Evaluation

A green screen is a background in front of which moving subjects are filmed and which allows a separately filmed background to be added to the final image or a moving background such as a music video or other video/gif. We were asked to generate evidence of personal and professional development. We were tasked with acting in front of a green screen and then editing the green screen. 

The green screen was in the TV Studio, it was a green sheet over a board, with studio lights facing us. We acted in front of it while it was recorded. When it came to editing, we started by placing all the clips together. This took roughly one lesson as we had to make sense of the clips, because we were throwing and catching a ball we had to make it so that they caught the ball and then threw it, then we had to alter the direction of the next person catching it so it made sense otherwise we were all throwing in the same direction and catching in the same direction which did not make any sense. The next stage was to find a suitable background image for the clips, Sam felt it would be appropriate to place countries in as a background. I then suggested a moving clip of me throwing the ball to skepta and putting skepta's music video in the video background. The tools we used to edit with was a selection, we started off with the Razor tool which essentially cut the clips into whatever size you wanted, where you wanted. I also used the grab tool to move clips around onto different layers, I used the lock to lock the video layers however deleted the audio tracks that accompany them. That was all for the skeleton edit. We then placed the clips we found before behind the green screen where we removed the green background through the Effects Menu > Keying > Ultra Key. We used the pipet tool to select the green background which in effect, removed the black background showing the images we placed. They were too small so we had to go into the effects menu to stretch the images so they covered the whole of the blackness. We then placed audio onto different trax in order to control the audio. This was done via Audio Control on the Interface. We controlled the volume by not letting it go higher than "-12", this was because the sound can become distorted and can become too loud so we leveled it off at -12. We did this by dragging the bar down while it played until it stayed under -12. The reason we put the audio files onto different trax is because some may be quieter than others, and if you lower the loud ones it will also lower the quiet tracks therefore making them pointless as you can hardly hear them.

What I liked about the project we were set was the creative freedom that we had, because we had no set task ref. what images/video's we can use apart from being appropriate. I also liked the fact is wasn't just like everything we have done so far, it was different and enjoyable to make. 

My green screen could be improved if we had more time because we could of done different things in front of the green screen however we only had a certain amount of time to perform as we had to fit everyone in.
